APPLYING A
SPONSOR.
Follow our step-by-step guidance for applying DTF and flock sponsors safely and correctly to your football shirt.
WHICH TYPE OF SPONSOR
ARE YOU APPLYING?
DTF and flock sponsors require different application settings. Check which type you have before applying any heat.
DTF SPONSOR
FLOCK SPONSOR
For both DTF and flock sponsors, always cover the entire sponsor with a suitable protective sheet before applying heat.
DTF and flock sponsors require different temperatures and pressing times. Using the incorrect settings may damage the sponsor or your shirt.
Before positioning the sponsor, pre-press the application area for 5 seconds.
APPLYING YOUR SPONSOR
Take your time with positioning and application. A few careful checks before pressing can make a big difference to the final result.
PREPARE & PRE-PRESS THE SHIRT
Lay the shirt flat and make sure the chest area is clean, smooth and free from creases.
POSITION THE SPONSOR
Carefully position the sponsor across the chest. Make sure it is centred, level and sitting in the correct position before applying any heat.
COVER WITH A PROTECTIVE SHEET
Place a suitable protective sheet over the entire sponsor before applying heat.
APPLY HEAT
Apply the correct temperature, time and pressure for the type of sponsor you are using.
ALLOW TO COOL & PEEL
Once pressing is complete, allow the application to cool correctly before removing the carrier.
CHECK THE APPLICATION
Carefully inspect the entire sponsor after peeling. Check all letters, details and edges to make sure everything has fully adhered to the shirt.
RE-PRESS ONLY IF REQUIRED
If the sponsor is fully adhered, no further pressing is required.
COMMON MISTAKES
TO AVOID
Sponsor transfers are highly visible on a football shirt. Taking a little extra time with positioning and application can make a big difference to the finished result.
USING THE WRONG SETTINGS
DTF and flock sponsors require different temperatures and pressing times. Always identify which type of sponsor you have before applying heat.
SKIPPING THE PROTECTIVE SHEET
Always cover the entire sponsor with a suitable protective sheet before applying heat. Never press directly onto the sponsor or its carrier.
RUSHING THE POSITIONING
A sponsor that is slightly off-centre or not level can be very noticeable. Check its position carefully across the chest before applying any heat.
PEELING TOO EARLY
Allow the application to cool correctly before removing the carrier. DTF should cool slightly, while flock should be allowed to cool before peeling.
UNNECESSARY RE-PRESSING
If the sponsor has fully adhered after the first press, there is no need to press it again. Only re-press an area that has not completely adhered.
AFTERCARE
Correct aftercare will help protect your newly applied sponsor and keep your football shirt looking its best.
GIVE THE SPONSOR TIME TO SET
Leave the shirt for at least 48 hours after applying the sponsor before washing it.
HAND WASH
Hand washing is preferable and gives you greater control when cleaning a shirt with an applied sponsor.
KEEP IT COOL
If using a washing machine, use a quick cycle at a low temperature of no more than 30°C.
TURN IT INSIDE OUT
Turn the shirt inside out and place it inside a washing bag before putting it into the washing machine.
ALWAYS AIR DRY
Allow your football shirt to air dry naturally after washing to help protect the shirt and applied sponsor.
NEVER DO THESE
High temperatures can damage both the shirt and the applied sponsor.
Do not apply an iron directly over the sponsor or other applied printing.
