APPLYING A
PATCH.
Follow our step-by-step guidance for applying DTF and flock patches safely and correctly to your football shirt.
WHICH TYPE OF PATCH
ARE YOU APPLYING?
DTF and flock patches require different application settings. Check which type you have before applying any heat.
DTF PATCH
FLOCK PATCH
For both DTF and flock patches, always cover the entire patch with a suitable protective sheet before applying heat.
DTF and flock patches require different temperatures and pressing times. Using the incorrect settings may damage the patch or your shirt.
Before positioning the patch, pre-press the application area for 5 seconds.
APPLYING YOUR PATCH
Take your time and work through each step carefully. Correct preparation, positioning and application settings will help you achieve the best possible finish.
PREPARE & PRE-PRESS THE SHIRT
Lay the shirt flat and make sure the application area is clean, smooth and free from creases.
POSITION THE PATCH
Carefully position the patch in the correct location on the shirt. Make sure it is straight and sitting exactly where you want it before applying any heat.
COVER WITH A PROTECTIVE SHEET
Place a suitable protective sheet over the entire patch before applying heat.
APPLY HEAT
Apply the correct temperature, time and pressure for the type of patch you are using.
ALLOW TO COOL & PEEL
Once the press is complete, allow the application to cool correctly before removing the carrier.
CHECK THE APPLICATION
Carefully inspect the entire patch after peeling. Pay particular attention to the edges and check that the patch has fully adhered to the shirt.
RE-PRESS ONLY IF REQUIRED
If the patch is fully adhered, no further pressing is required.
COMMON MISTAKES
TO AVOID
A few simple checks before pressing can help prevent application problems and reduce unnecessary heat exposure to your shirt.
USING THE WRONG SETTINGS
DTF and flock patches require different temperatures and pressing times. Always identify which type of patch you have before applying heat.
SKIPPING THE PROTECTIVE SHEET
Always cover the entire patch with a suitable protective sheet before applying heat. Never press directly onto the patch or its carrier.
POOR PATCH POSITIONING
Check the patch is correctly positioned and straight before pressing. Small positioning errors can be particularly noticeable on shirt sleeves.
PEELING TOO EARLY
Allow the application to cool correctly before removing the carrier. DTF should cool slightly, while flock should be allowed to cool before peeling.
UNNECESSARY RE-PRESSING
If the patch has fully adhered after the first press, there is no need to press it again. Only re-press an area that has not completely adhered.
AFTERCARE
Correct aftercare will help protect your newly applied patch and keep your football shirt looking its best.
GIVE THE PATCH TIME TO SET
Leave the shirt for at least 48 hours after applying the patch before washing it.
HAND WASH
Hand washing is preferable and gives you greater control when cleaning a shirt with applied patches.
KEEP IT COOL
If using a washing machine, use a quick cycle at a low temperature of no more than 30°C.
TURN IT INSIDE OUT
Turn the shirt inside out and place it inside a washing bag before putting it into the washing machine.
ALWAYS AIR DRY
Allow your football shirt to air dry naturally after washing to help protect the shirt and applied patch.
NEVER DO THESE
High temperatures can damage both the shirt and the applied patch.
Do not apply an iron directly over the patch or other applied printing.
